The problem
Billions of people lack access to basic sanitation and handwashing facilities. In 2017, more than 700 million people lacked a basic sanitation service and practiced open defecation. In least-developed countries, only 35-40 percent of people had a basic handwashing facility with soap and water at home. Corporations can contribute to sanitation access in several ways, including by avoiding polluting local water sources; providing sanitation services at all global facilities; creating jobs, especially in low-income regions (economic mobility usually allows greater access to sanitation services); and charitable donations to organizations working to increase sanitation access
